Botanical name | Petunia hybrid |
Flowering | Early spring to late autumn in warmer climates. |
Habit | Surfinia® Classic plants have a trailing habit. Surfinia® Patio plants have an upright/mounding habit. |
Use | Surfinia® Classic is the original trailing petunia, and has been trusted by Australian gardeners and professional landscapers since ’93. With seven varieties to choose from there’s a colour for every landscape. Surfinia® is trusted due to its remarkable resilience to adverse weather, such as heavy rain and low temperatures. Under these conditions Surfinia® will prevail and when the sun comes out will produce the most remarkable show of flowers that will leave your neighbours asking “How do they do it?” Surfinia® Patio is a relatively new concept that’s been developed using some of the characteristics found in Surfinia® Classic, with the added benefit of earlier flowering and a more upright habit. Why the change I hear you ask? Surfinia® Patio was developed to improve the performance and appearance of Surfinia® when used in hanging baskets and balcony boxes. Five varieties are now available. |
Position | Surfinia® Patio and Classic plants perform best when exposed to full sun conditions. |
Care | When growing in pots, use a well drained, organically rich potting mix. Do not allow plants to dry out. Water adequately but not excessively if planted in the ground. In containers, keep plants slightly moist. Pruning or pinching is not necessary as Surfinia plants are self-cleaning! Due to the large amount of flowers produced by Surfinia® plants, they require a regular application of fertiliser. Use a high-nitrogen fertiliser with iron. For plants growing in containers apply fertiliser weekly; for plants growing in the ground apply fertiliser monthly. |
