Retailers Enjoy the Sun Parasol Advantage

Retailers from Cairns to Hobart are enjoying the advantages of Sun Parasol plants, and the unique benefits compared to other mandevilla hybrids. Since the first Sun Parasol was sold in the spring of 2000, to the introduction of the first genuine red sande read more

The genus mandevilla has many sub-groups, including sanderi, boliviensis and amoena, which are all known for their climbing or trailing properties. Until recently, the sanderi group was the leading variety in Australia; however, the arrival of Sun Parasol has the potential to overtake the sanderi group in volume.

The secret of Sun Parasol Crimson Fantasy is that it’s the first genuine crimson sanderi that stays true to colour. It also has better branching than the old sanderi types and is easy to cultivate in Australia.

In addition to introducing the first genuine crimson sanderi variety, the 2011-12 season Sun Parasol will expand to a total of nine varieties offered in three groups; the ‘Pretty’ group which includes Crimson, Pink, Rose Pink and White; the ‘Classic’ group which includes Crimson, Burgundy, and Dark Red; and the ‘Giant’ group which includes Crimson, Pink and White. The Giant group boasts very large flowers and is most suitable for potted plants.

This group displays coarser growth than the Classic group. Giant varieties bloom slightly later than the Classic group. The Pretty group offers superior branching, vigorous growth and a strong climbing habit. The cross-breeding used to develop the Pretty group gives them early flowering capability, due to their low energy requirement. Pretty varieties are defined by their flower size, and are the most prolific flowering Sun Parasol plants.

Sun Parasol, which has been in the Australian market since 2000, has already become a firm consumer favourite thanks to its rich and long-lasting flowers, excellent garden behaviour and easy care nature. Consumers who experience Sun Parasol are bound to want this magnificent product in their gardens every year, as indicated by consumer research.

In addition to being a popular flowering pot plant, Sun Parasol will also be offered in hanging baskets, combo pots, large decorative trellised pots and as a bedding plant.
